This site discusses some of the issues related to long term effects of institutionalization on children, especially children with special needs adopted from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The issues described are possible problems, commonly described by parents who have had difficult experiences. Not all children adopted from institutions will have these problems, but it is important to keep in mind that parents will need contingency plans and preparation for the adoption.
